After the atomic bombs of 1945 and nuclear testing following, radioactivity became the great source of danger and mutation. In this early Hammer horror, a group of soldiers on exercise in Scotland come across a gravel pit that is highly radioactive. While investigations start, people start to die. A US researcher theorises that it may be a monster under the earth that is feeding off radioactivity.
Great American director Joseph Losey started the film, but soon left the production to be completed by father of Barry Norman.
