Quatermass and the Pit

Dir. Roy Ward Baker. UK, 1967, 97mins (15)
Andrew Keir, James Donald, Barbara Shelley, Julian Glover

Building a new underground line through London, work comes to halt when a skeleton is discovered. Excavation uncovers what appears to be a missile left over from the War, but it is soon clear this is no earth product, or if it is, it is top secret.

Enter UK research scientist Quatermass who recognises it as a ship from another planet. Despite appearances that the ship is a relic, it soon starts to exert control over the people who come close.

A pinnacle of Hammer filmmaking, mixing horror and science and building to one of the finest showdowns between good and evil ever put on screen.
