HUT 12 – 2.00PM
Dr Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
Dir. Stanley Kubrick GB 1963 94 mins
Peter Sellers, George C Scott, Sterling Hayden, Slim Pickens
Kubrick set out to make a serious film on the nuclear threat but soon realised it wasn’t possible. The result shows what a great director of comedy he could have been.
When General Jack D Ripper launches a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union, President Muffley is left with some difficult decisions. Can Major ‘King’ Kong get through and bomb his target or, with the aid of American strategists, can Russian pilots bring him down? And who is the mysterious Dr. Strangelove.
Peter Sellers performs extravagantly in three roles, more than ably supported by an excellent cast.
